Milla Jovovich Updates Resident Evil 5 Via Twitter

Shortly after last year’s Resident Evil: Afterlife had the biggest opening weekend for a Resident Evil movie yet, Milla Jovovich confirmed a fifth installment and revealed that she and husband Paul W.S. Anderson — who wrote and produced all four Resident Evil movies and directed Afterlife and the 2002 original — were going to employ a “interactive process,” allowing fans to give them advice through “Twitter and stuff.” True to her word, Jovovich took to her Twitter account to update fans about Resident Evil 5 (RE 5) and fielded questions about the sequel.
With Anderson recently landing the director’s chair for the historical disaster movie Pompeii, it seemed that his involvement in RE 5 might be limited or even non-existent. Jovovich informed fans that Anderson is hard at work on the sequel.

jst 2 let the RE fans know, cause there’s been a bunch of questions abt the nxt film, paul has kids that are proffessional players…all they do is play the games till they master every level and unlock every code. they play the games for WEEKS and give paul the footage.
so he’s literally watching days of the most awesome RE players out there to get inspiration 4 the nxt installment of the franchise.

While the ending of Afterlife saw the return of a previous character from the earlier sequels, Jovovich says Anderson may explore her character’s origin in the sequel.

OMG! Paul has such a grt idea 4 the nxt RE film and there will b a HUGE surprise abt the origin of Alice!
paul is still writing the script, but he’s got the story down. Its gonna b CRAZY! N fans r gonna luv who we bring back! As well as new characters n the zombies r goin 2 the nxt level!!!!

Jovovich also Tweeted the title of the next sequel, though she has since deleted it. According to Worst Previews, Jovovich wrote: “I think [the new movie is] called RE: Retribution, but I have to ask Paul to be sure.” Then she revealed that the sequel might be shot in Japan.

I pray for Japan everyday and I can’t wait to go there and shoot the next RE.

Whatever the movie will be called, fans will learn more details soon. Sony Screen Gems has already set a release date of September 14, 2012, for Resident Evil 5 (or Retribution). While nothing has been confirmed, it’s likely that, like Afterlife, the sequel will be in 3-D.
