Milla Jovovich and Paul W.S. Anderson return for Resident Evil 5

In a piece of news that’s likely to surprise nobody ever ever ever in a million years ever, another Resident Evil movie is going into production. Both Milla Jovovich and Paul W.S. Anderson (directing his third film in the hit series) are slated to return for Resident Evil: Retribution, which is scheduled to go in front of the cameras in October with a planned September 14, 2012 release date.

In their exclusive announcement, Bloody Disgusting revealed that the fifth film in the financially-successful-yet-critically-maligned Resident Evil franchise will take Jovovich’s character to Japan, and that popular Resident Evil videogame characters Jill Valentine, Barry Burton and, most importantly, Leon Kennedy are coming along for the ride. Valentine previously appeared in the first movie sequel, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, as played by Sienna Guillory. She was supposed to return for the most recent film, Resident Evil: Afterlife, but reportedly had to back out due to scheduling conflict. Bloody Disgusting claims that the part will be recast for the fifth film.

And Leon…? Well, apparently the star of Resident Evil 4 (still the best game in the series) died off-screen in Resident Evil: Apocalypse, but nobody ever claimed to like this movie series because of its commitment to continuity.

We’ve never been as much a fan of the Resident Evil movies as we have been of the videogames, so our enthusiasm for a fifth film is limited. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
